Methoni Messenia, Peloponnese, Greece.







Methoni is a village located on the south-west part of the Peloponnese peninsula, Greece.
Its name may be derived from Mothona, a mythical rock.


Methoni has been identified as the city Pedasus, that Agamemnon offers to Achilles, when he wanted to quieten Achilles’s anger.


Many conquered Methoni, the Venetians at the 12 century,  the Ottoman Turks at the early 16 century, then it went back to the Venetians,back to the Turks, and int early 19 century during the Greek Revolution, Egyptian army gained permission from the Turks to quieten the revolution, in 1822, the Greeks had defeated the Egyptians and finally gained control over Methoni.
